The Mental Health Awareness 5K

Saturday, May 8th was so much fun! The board of county supervisors had a 5k walk to bring awareness to mental health. Trillium was a part of the event and I had the opportunity to participate in doing some of the preparation and decoration of the event. Trillium, as always, showed up with gusto. So, I’m going to share with you all some of my favorite things of the event. Let us begin.

The 5k

I walked the 5k partially, let me explain why I did not do the entire thing. I was actually in charge of putting up signs all across the 5k so that way people could get a hoot when reading those signs. My friend and I were putting up stakes and putting the signs on the stakes all across the 5k, so afterwards, I was tired! My boss had already told me that I was going to do that, but I didn’t know that I would be so tired. So afterwards I just sat down and ate and talked, which brings me to the next favorite part of the event.

Food

The people in charge of the food were so kind to me. Their food was on point as well! The way that the food worked was that for certain people, there would be vouchers so that way the people could get a meal. However something happened to me.

When you order things from there, you could choose to order extra things, but you would have to pay the difference on the voucher. So, I wanted an extra chicken wing and an extra drink. It came out to like two dollars and some change. I thought I had plenty to go around but I was wrong. Someone had hacked into my Uber account and was using my money maliciously. So, I did not have any money to go around, and would you believe that the people there, understood me and they said, “Its okay! It’s on the house!” So, they gave me the extra chicken wing and the extra drink for free! Thank God for them!

The people

Everyone over at the event understood what mental health was all about. From suicide prevention people to police officers. Everyone there understood what the things that mental health problems can do and it was such a relief being around people who understood me.

On top of that, I had all of my friends going over to the event. They made it all the more enjoyable because goofing off to your friends is so much fun! I love hanging out with them.

Well guys, that’s it for this blog post. The mental health event was so much fun! I hope that we can make this event grow bigger each year.
