Do you notice and acknowledge your small wins? And when you do, do you take even a moment to celebrate?
Acknowledging small, personal successes is crucial for fostering self-growth, boosting self-esteem, and maintaining motivation on the journey to achieving larger goals. While grand achievements may be rare and take time, recognizing the smaller milestones along the way provides a sense of accomplishment and progress. Celebrating these victories reinforces a positive mindset, encouraging you to continue striving for excellence.
Many of us engage in negative self-talk and low self-esteem. If that’s the case with you, I would still urge you to practice this anyway!
Let me share how I began. I was given an assignment from a life coach. For one week I was to notice any positive success, no matter how small, and to keep a daily log. So I did. It was a game changer! Here are some examples:
“Today I was able to notice when I was biting my nails and was able to stop, at least for a couple hours each time.”
“Today I was doom-scrolling on YouTube and made a choice to read a good book instead.”
“Today I had an unkind thought about a driver who almost ran me off the road. I chose to send a blessing instead of feeding inner anger.”
Also, after each event I CELEBRATED by saying out loud, “Good choice, Risa. You got this!”
This practice has made a huge difference in how I experience myself and the world. I’m much more positive and forgiving of myself and others. On another note, I read somewhere that by noting and actively celebrating a personal success we create new positive chemistry such as dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin.
Really, what have you got to lose by noticing good things about yourself and giving yourself a little “High Five”?!?!
Feel free to comment on how this has made a difference for you:)
